Hanson Racing Team 2008

The second round of the British Under 21 and Open Championship took place at Whiteway Barton in Devon and Hanson rider Alfie Smith was there in his debut outing in the Championship.

The youngest on the start list Alfie held his nerve and qualified for the main race against some of the top flight youth racers in the country.

Alfie rode well and used his head to make sure that he could gain experience from the event and take it forward to the next round at Dean Moor in Cumbria.

In the first race he finished 30th just behind Sam Davis who has also moved up this year and in the second he scored an improved 27th.

With the first of his Under 21 Championship rounds now dealt with he knows what is needed and expected in future rounds and is ready or the challenge.

Winter had a sting in it's tail for round 1 of the DEP Championship which saw Greg Hanson in the saddle once more in a competitive role.

Trouble with the timing system meant it was going to be qualifying heats to decide the pecking order on the day.

Stator trouble with Greg's race machine meant it was going to be the spare bike that got used for the racing which the organisers decided would be run over only one moto.

Despite the terrible conditions and the mechanical glitches Greg placed 4th on the day.

Greg Hanson returns to CCM to take part in the World Veterans Championship.

As ever the racing was fast and furious in the highly competative series and Greg once more out in the thick of it.

Mallory Park was the setting for the veterans Grand Prix of Great Britain that runs alongside the MX1 and MX2 classes world championship on a brand new circuit that was created especially for the occasion.

Greg once more took to the world stage aboard the CCM 450 up against some of the best over 40 riders in the world including Dave Thorpe and Peter Ivan.

The first moto saw Greg put a real race on in front of home fans having battles and picking his way through the field to the delight of the partisan spectators who cheered him on from the fencing. At the end of the first moto Greg was in third spot and he was looking to improve for the next race

Moto 2 and the gate drops and sees Greg in first place around the first corner. Once again there is a race on with some pressure from other riders. The crowd are loving it as Greg batlles with the other riders and after losing a few places starts clawing back through the field. Disaster strikes as landing from a huge thuge jump the rear tyre comes off the rim and throws Greg violently to the floor destroying the bike and leaving Greg devastated that his race is run.

Thankfully Greg is ok but understandably upset that mechanical failure had ruined his chance of standing on the podium in front of the home fans.
